Our history

IME was established in 1972 in Manerbio, and has always been owned by the same family who chose to manage the business directly, despite the considerable efforts required by its agricultural and livestock activities. This meant that through the years, the bond has become increasingly strong, making ime a true family passion.

la nostra storia testo 1

Production in the early years consisted of small fans with induction motors and universal motors for hairdryers and small appliances built essentially for the italian market.

By the end of the 1970s ime was producing more than 5 million motors annually.

The growth was constant and the ime brand began to be recognized and appreciated abroad and new products followed on quickly.

In 1993, the first major "leap" in technology took place: the first permanent magnet commutator electric motors were added to the universal motors range. Because of this ime quickly established itself as a leader in the market for coffee grinder motors.

In the following years, this technology was leveraged by ime in many other fields of application, including automatic door opening.

In 1996, IME made significant investments in manufacturing engineering for vacuum cleaner motor production, a market thought to be ideal for the continuous growth of the company.

The choice proved to be spot-on and IME quickly became to be widely recognized as one of the main international market players, thanks to the reliability and quality of its vacuum units.

The available manufacturing footprint was not sufficient for this new industrial development, therefore ime decided to build a brand new plant on an area of about 10,000 square meters in nearby pontevico.

From the 1990s onwards, IME’s export market became increasingly significant and its customers’ portfolio began to include the most prestigious brands in the field of household appliances, vacuum cleaners and power tools

la nostra storia testo 2

In 2001, there was the second significant "leap" in technology, with the start of the production of asynchronous motors.
The occasion came about by the decision made by a major consumer of asynchronous electric motors for burners (about 400,000 per year), to outsource its domestic production, IME put its name forward, won against the competition and with a huge investment, completely took over the production lines and moulds. An additional plant was needed which was quickly identified and purchased, next to the historic plant of Manerbio.
In less than a year after the decision, the whole operation was completed with the first production of asynchronous motors for the new important customer.
As for the permanent magnet motors, over the years the initial range of asynchronous motors was also expanded and diversified to meet requests from the most diverse fields of application: from gardening to ventilation, from pumps to professional tools, from food processors to hoists, and so on.
In particular, the special asynchronous motors are of great interest for the advanced technical solutions implemented, developed from 2007 for niche markets, such as artificial snow systems, high temperature ventilation, oxygenation and purification of industrial and civil liquid plants and auxiliary applications in the railway sector.

In 2004, IME tireless in its striving for the development of new technologies, invested in the first production line of permanent magnet brushless motors.
In the early years, the market was limited to a few customers and to a single application, but the strategic value of such an initiative was clear: to build up and run a suitable technical-production organization and recruit the necessary skills in terms of electronic control, in view of the massive launch of production of brushless motors for various fields of application, in autumn 2013.
IME is certain that the development of its business will be focused on this technology.
